SPECIALORBITS is a New York City-based brand founded by Cedric Victor, and co-run with Liliana Dalen.
The studio brings together a love of craft and a background spanning 15th century printmaking, digital media, and everything in between. Paper, ink, scale, and language all converge to become something—a card, a book, an object—interesting enough to start a conversation and put your best foot forward.
Somewhere in a 1970s textbook on astronomy, among classifications of orbits for heavenly bodies and artificial satellites:
A kind of orbit in which the heavenly body is a few miles above the earth and moving over equator at the same speed that the planet spins.
So if you happen to be in a spot where you can look up and see it, you’ll always be directly under it, day or night. The orbit is called a “stable” or geosynchronous orbit, within a class of orbits called special orbits.
It frames a lovely story: two lives moving along on their own paths, yet remaining aligned enough that each can still look up and find the other.
